Amazon recently bought a 2% stake of Just Eat Takeaway, the parent company of food delivery company Grubhub. Although this usually wouldn't mean much to most of us, it does mean something for Amazon Prime members. Amazon is giving Prime subscribers a year of Grubhub+ for free ($120 value)—all you need to do is activate it.
Activate Your Free Grubhub+ Account
To be eligible for your free Grubhub+ membership, you'll need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber. If you aren't yet, you can sign up for Prime membership for $14.99/month or $139/year.
- Visit the free Grubhub+ page on Amazon.
- Either click Join Prime or Activate free Grubhub+ to sign in to your existing Amazon Prime account.
- Follow the instructions to activate your Grubhub+ account.
If you have an existing Grubhub account, sign in to your account. The free Grubhub+ membership will be added to your Grubhub account.
If you don't have an existing Grubhub account, you will need to create one.
It's as simple as that! Note that your Grubhub+ membership will automatically renew after one year, and your saved payment method will be charged $9.99/month. You can cancel your Grubhub+ membership at any time.
Don't Forget to Cancel Grubhub+ Next Year!
Your Grubhub+ membership will automatically renew at $9.99/month after your free year is up. If you don't want to pay for it, you'll need to remember to cancel it before it renews. Set a reminder in your calendar before it's set to renew, so you don't forget.
What Grubhub+ Includes
One of the main selling points of Grubhub+ is free unlimited delivery. If you get food delivered regularly, it's definitely worthwhile having, as a single delivery can cost anywhere from $0.99 - $10 (although it usually averages less than $5 per delivery). However, that's not the only perk of the premium membership.
Perks of Grubhub+ include:
- Membership is free with an Amazon Prime subscription
- No delivery fees (unlimited free delivery)
- Exclusive perks and discounts
Free delivery only applies to orders over $12 (not including taxes, tips, and fees).
Is Grubhub+ Worth It?
If you're an Amazon Prime subscriber, Grubhub+ is absolutely worth it because it's free! However, after your free year of membership is up, paying for a Grubhub+ subscription is only worth it if you order food delivery regularly.
For example, if you usually pay $2.99 for delivery per order, it would only be worth it if you order at least four times a month.
If you don't usually order food delivery, continuing your Grubhub+ membership once your free year is up will probably be a waste of money. Also, don't start ordering food delivery for the sake of it. Food delivery, whether from Grubhub, Uber Eats, Door Dash, or other food delivery services, usually costs more than picking the food up yourself.
Sometimes, restaurants increase their prices specifically for these delivery services, and you'll also notice a service fee, delivery fee, and optional tip added.
